Program Start. It is reasonable to assume that mental illness has been with us for millions of years, everyone seems to have a mental disorder. The latest edition of the bible for psychiatry, the Diagnosis And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders, (DSM), covers everyone. If every other diagnosis fails, you've always got, " personality disorder not otherwise specified. " Mental illness in the U.K. is rising due to deteriorating quality of life. An alarming aspect is that mental illness is currently increasing in children in the U.K. depression, self harm, unhappiness and suicide: all are increasing. The charity Mind, the U.K. mental health charity published a paper in May 2005, that stated that time off work by employees in the U.K. is currently costing 100 billion pounds per year: and this figure is rising. 25 per cent of people in the U.K. suffer some form of mental illness. Mental illness has now become more acceptable to society. Ten years ago the mention of mental illness would have reduced credibility, not today. Kay Redfield Jamison. Professor of Psychiatry at John Hopkins University School Of Medicine has had the depressive illness Bipolar Disorder for 30 years. Kay has now published a book about exuberance, titled, Exuberance: The Passion For Life. The nobel prize winner for economics in 1994, John Nash, the mathematician, has suffered mental illness throughout his life. Genius is something other than perfect normality. The film about his life has won four Oscars. People with some forms of mental illness are highly creative, creativity is now seen as linked to some forms of mental illness. You may have perfect mental health, your assessment, however, this could change, you could have a nervous breakdown, this book may help you avoid this. You do not know if you will develop mental illness, you need to know what it is. I was sitting in a mental hospital in 1988, sitting with a mental and physical state that resembled a zombie, observing other talking and walking zombies, I thought what's happened to me, what's this all about ? It took me three years to work most of it out, and within the next seventeen years: with two major setbacks, I finally worked it all out. This book is the fruit of this research. You have to experience serious mental illness, as I have experienced: to analyse it as I have. The text in this book is presented in the simplest very easily readable form that the author can create so people that have lesser art for grammar can understand it. The text in this book is very simply written for the reading age of eleven child reader. If you are a scientist, you will find this book interesting. However, as a scientist or academic, you will probably find the presented very simple grammar, a boring read: my sincere apologies for this. This book is for the next generation, to bring about an awareness as to what mental illness is: and to what causes it, and what can happen with a nervous breakdown. This book is also for the many people that suffer from mental illness, many of these people were abused children: this caused their mental illness, and because of this child abuse, many of these people have learning difficulties, and their reading skills are poor. Many people that have recently developed mental illness are in a very poor mental state. These people in this very poor mental state now also find that they have learning difficulties. The main aim of this book is to help children easily understand what mental illness is. It is hoped that children will be able to easily understand this book, and if they suffer from mental illness: this book may help them work out the cause or causes of their mental illness.
